AudioTour | Captivated by Bethany-Kris

Looking for a good mafia romance that's not too dark, but still a bit heavy? A one-sitting kind of read that will blow your mind? Check out my review!

Synopsis:
A shadow meets the light …

When someone needs to disappear, the Chicago mob calls on Joe Rossi. A man who can move without a sound, and kill without a word, they don’t call him the Shadow for nothing.

This time, it’s a New York crime family in need of his skills, but it takes one glimpse of her to make him agree to the job.

Liliana Marcello is every inch a principessa della mafia. Her life has taught her to be wary of strangers, yet her ballet career contradicts everything by putting her on display.

It’s a man with a dark smile and a constantly changing demeanor that makes her feel safe again, but it’s the unknown that holds her back.

It takes one look …
One dance …
One word …
One smile to captivate a man.

And one second to kill a woman because of it, too.

Not all monsters hide in the shadows.
How are you supposed to see them coming?

My Rating:

My Thoughts:
Bethany-Kris is still a new for me author. This was my second listen and read of hers and once again I enjoyed it. This was lovely romance with some interesting characters and an adorable romance. The story wasn't dark, but it was heavy.

The audiobook for me was very bland. The narrators voice didn't work for me as I pictured Joe with a much deeper and almost husky voice. The narrator's voice just seemed to drag on. The reading pace was so slow that I preferred to listen to it on a 2.5 speed. I would have preferred either a deeper voice for the narration or for there to have been a woman to play the parts of Liliana.

Joe is a mysterious guy known as the Shadow. He's a gun for hire that has well over 120+ successful marks. He seems like a guarded and dark man, but he's truly a sweetheart. I loved seeing the two sides of him collide and play out. Joe was the perfect guy for this story. He knew the life of being in the mafia, but he also made sure to keep watch of everything outside that life. He was quiet and reserved, yet loud and dominating. I loved him!

Liliana has grown up in the life of a mafia family, but she's a ballerina. She's had some hardships after trusting a man and got scared physically and emotionally. I loved her boldness and how civil she was. You would expect her to be a spoiled brat or snob, but she was neither. She had a good head on her shoulders. She was a strong woman with all that she went through and how she handled it. I respected her.

The romance was so adorable. It was a bit of an instant attraction between the two, but it was written so well. They were on fire for one another. It was an electric romance. I loved their steamy scenes of course. I loved how Liliana allowed Joe to dominant her in a safe environment. Joe never took advantage of her. He actually loved her enough to share it with his family and her father. I loved it all!

Lucian was a phenomenal dad! He may have been a boss, but he never intruded on his children's love life. As a father he was fantastic and as a boss he was amazing. I loved his kindness towards Joe. I loved him.

Rich was a pure dick. I hated him and everyone who backed him. I wish it was Joe who got the hits in, but his ending was nice.

Overall, I enjoyed this mafia romance and how light it was compared to the other story I've read of hers. Would recommend.
