Synopsis:
Eighteen-year-old Ashlyn is one interview away from her future when she first sees the demons.

She thinks she's losing her mind, but the truth is far more frightening: she can see into the Darkworld, the home of spirits– and the darkness is staring back.

Desperate to escape the demons, Ash accepts a place at a university in the small town of Blackstone, in the middle of nowhere - little knowing that it isn't coincidence that led her there but the pull of the Venantium, the sorcerers who maintain the barrier keeping demons from crossing from the Darkworld into our own world.

All-night parties, new friendships and a life without rules or limits are all part of the package of student life - but demons still stalk Ash, and their interest in her has attracted the attention of every sorcerer in the area. Ash is soon caught between her new life and a group of other students with a connection to the Darkworld, who could offer the answers she's looking for. The demons want something from her, and someone is determined to kill her before she can find out what it is.

In a world where darkness lurks beneath the surface, not everyone is what they appear to be...

My Rating:

My Thoughts:
This was totally amazing! Emma Adams did such an amazing job with this story. It was very good and filled with action and drama. I enjoyed the world, the characters and all the surprises and twists thrown into it.

Ashlyn was pretty awesome! I can't believe how she dealt with all the news about her life back to back on top of being attacked by demons. I mean she handled it with a lot of grace. She's been followed for months, attacked about 3-5 times over the course of the book and then found out some shocking news about herself. Yet, she still was calm and probably screamed all of twice within those circumstances. Ashlyn is sassy when she needs to be and bold. She was willing to learn how to control her new abilities even when it freaked her out a little. She was awesome!

David was a cool character in this story. He was definitely a douche-bag at times, but considering how he and Ashlyn were on opposite sides of the "magical spectrum" I could understand why he tried to push her away. I wish the two of them could have been a couple because that would have an super cute! I hope things get better between him and Ash in the next book. Madame Persephone is still creepy and awesome. She is just a woman of many abilities. I can't believe how much she knew about Ashlyn and how well she disguised herself. She was always there for Ash, so I'm curious to know what more she will tell and teach her over the course of the series.

The rest of the flat-mates were all cool. I'm so happy I read the novella (Fear's Touch) before reading this because I'm a huge fan of Claudia and the gang. They are all too cool and kickbutt when it comes to fighting the shadow beasts. Loved it! I was blown away by Terrance and who he was. I never suspected him of being the crazy one, let alone a demon! I couldn't believe it was him because I totally pinning for it to be David.

That ending left me speechless. What will happen to Ashlyn now? Will she learn more about her family? Will other demons come after her? So excited for the sequel, Walking Shadow!
