Keeping her end of a desperate bargain to save her island home from destruction, Alexa Costa finds herself in the unlikely employ of Queen Jada. Bound by a powerful spell, she swears allegiance to the kingdom of Alvair and remembers nothing of her romance with Caleb. Now she must adjust to life within the castle, where her personal opinion means nothing, her skills are constantly put to the test, and her private thoughts are public knowledge.

Rumors abound and secrecy reigns in Queen Jada’s inner circle, the members of which include the mysterious Prince Dante, the self-obsessed Princess Tiana, and the valiant Captain Whitman of the Alvairan Army. It’s only a matter of time until Alexa suspects treachery, but with enemies waiting outside—and inside—the castle walls, will regaining her memory be enough?
My Rating: ★★★★★

Quote(s) I Like:
"No. I disobeyed orders today in defense of a comrade who was executed for doing the right thing. I'm not going to heal myself, not when he paid the ultimate price to make sure the rest of us were safe." - Caleb

"Believe me, if anyone used to distrust this kind of power it was me. But I understand it better now. It's the caster of the spell, not the spell itself that determines whether the power is good or evil." - Caleb

"Stabbed in the back. I can't believe that's all it took to kill her." - Caleb

My Thoughts:

OMG! The Amulet of Power is an outstanding sequel to the Amulet of Elusion (see my review here). Katie did an absolutely amazing job with keeping the story-line intriguing, intense and even through in more action and romance.

In Amulet of Elusion we end off with King dead and Queen Jada angry. Alexa agreed, in return for Caleb's safety, that she would become Queen Jada's apprentice and grant her the power of the amulets. In this sequel, Alexa Costa (now 18 years old) is working for the ever so evil Queen Jada as her apprentice and the interpreter. Alexa works side by side with Queen Jada -- training, granting the power of the amulets to the inner circle and sadly carrying out orders to kill.

Caleb Whitman is now apart of the Alvairian army and he can't remember how he came to be in the army, but he knows something isn't right. I love how he fought to remember the last four months and once he did how he helped Alexa remember. Despite them being under the power of influence they both always found a way to one another. That's love.

Dante, the queen's nephew, is a new character that at first intrigued my interest. As the story went on and unfolded I found him to be self-conscious brat. Dante totally used the power of the amulets to force Alexa into liking him. While his aunt was away he devised a plan to get more power from the amulets and in doing so Alexa found out how he really was and his overall goal to overthrow the queen, his aunt.

The way Queen Jada deceived both Alexa and Caleb drove me insane because I was highly confused on why they acted so new to one another. Dante totally grinned my gears when he took advantage of Alexa with the powers. That showed how weak he was as a man. Queen Jada's death was unbelievable! Just still shocked. I totally love Caleb's family to pieces!

I enjoyed a few of the new characters like Nori and also the return of Ms. Novella Harris. Other characters such as Princess Tiana just irked my last nerve! Mya Santiago was a bit of win-lose situation for me -- I enjoyed her, but when she tried to push onto Caleb I wanted to smack her.

I'm still curious to know if Caleb is apart of the Triad?! Cause in book one an amulet glowed when he touched it and in the sequel he was granted more power from an amulet.

What I Loved:
- Nori and Alexa's friendship
- Alexa beating Princess Tiana
- the return of Ms. Novella
- Caleb's sisters, they are all adorable
- the father son conversation before Caleb, Alexa and Novella headed to where the rebels were

What I Disliked:
- Queen Jada using the power of influence on Alexa and Caleb to make them forget one another
- Caleb and his comrades having to kill one of their own after he saved them
- Dante taking sexual advantage of Alexa

Overall, I am excited to continue on with this trilogy and check out Amulet of Destiny next. Especially after reading that sneak peek!

If you're looking for a good fantasy with action and romance definitely check out this trilogy!
