Synopsis:
Sundial is a new, twisty psychological horror novel from Catriona Ward, internationally bestselling author of The Last House on Needless Street.
You can't escape what's in your blood...
All Rob wanted was a normal life. She almost got it, too: a husband, two kids, a nice house in the suburbs. But Rob fears for her oldest daughter, Callie, who collects tiny bones and whispers to imaginary friends. Rob sees a darkness in Callie, one that reminds her too much of the family she left behind.
She decides to take Callie back to her childhood home, to Sundial, deep in the Mojave Desert. And there she will have to make a terrible choice.
Callie is worried about her mother. Rob has begun to look at her strangely, and speaks of past secrets. And Callie fears that only one of them will leave Sundial alive…
The mother and daughter embark on a dark, desert journey to the past in the hopes of redeeming their future.

My Thoughts:
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for this tour. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
To say I am not a fan of horror books is an understatement, but since I started watching horror movies last year I figured I could give the genre a try. I was excited to read this beauty. Can I just gush about the gorgeous cover first please. It is both stunning and creepy all at once. I wasn't sure what to expect before going into this, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Let me just say that Catriona Ward's writing is so beautiful.
This gave me thrills and chills. I enjoyed the setting of Sundial, I loved the characters and I found myself pulled into the story. I have not read anything by Catriona Ward previously, but this sparked my interest.
Rob was an unhappy wife due to her past and family issues. Dysfunctional to say the least. Her husband is terrible, her oldest daughter creeps her out and Rob just has own issues to deal with. The toxic behaviors and attitudes shown to her daughters were tragic to say the least, but also real. No part of their family "drama" felt fake or forced.
To say this didn't freak me out as we learned more about Rob and her daughter would be a lie. I was freaked out and I enjoyed every bit of it. The truths and reveals kept me going and the ending was just one I didn't see coming.
I am so glad I got a chance to read this and I would definitely recommend it.
