Synopsis:
Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness…

He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…

Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds…and desires.

The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn't tear us apart.

Quotes I Liked

"Because I want to fuck you, Eva. I need to know what's standing in my way. if anything." - Gideon

"Don't. Tell me when, then. And before you say never, take a good look at me and tell me if you see a man who's easily deterred." - Gideon

"Hmm...Nothing is coming to mind. But I do have some friendly advice. Go spend time with a woman who salivates at your feet and makes you feel like a god. Fuck her until neither of you can walk. When you see me on Monday you'll be totally over it and your life will return to its usual obsessive-compulsive order." - Eva

"You definitely have the voice for phone sex, but I've got to go. I have a date with my vibrator." - Eva

"Oh Eva. You're determined to drive me to my knees, aren't you? What will it take to talk you into a threesome with B.O.B.?" - Gideon

"One day soon, I'm going to kneel beneath this desk and suck you off. Maybe while you're on the phone playing with your millions like Monopoly. You, Mr. Cross, will pass Go and collect your two hundred dollars." - Eva

"Don't burn off too much energy. I want you missionary-style the first time. I've been having this fantasy of you on top, banging the hell out of me." - Eva

"Eva...if you just tell me what you want -- I can get better at this, if you give me the chance. Just don't...don't give up on me." Gideon

"Yes, I do. If you crave something, I'll be the one to give it to you. All of your needs, Eva, are mine to fulfill. Whatever it costs me." - Gideon.

My Thoughts

This is my first Sylvia Day novel and I am completely blown away by her writing and the details she provide in her story. Her characters were well written, the drama was equally amazing for both characters and the romance that was built it very promising.

Eva has moved to NYC in hopes of furthering a career in advertising. She loves her new job and new boss, but she didn't expect to fall in love with a headstrong guy who happens to be the owner of the company she works for...along with several other businesses. Eva is a strong woman. She doesn't naturally break easily like most women in the story does when it comes to Gideon. She challenges him and doesn't back down. Her backstory was terrifying. I hated reading it, but it helped to understand her more. Knowing what she went through and how she overcame it was awesome. Her family is amazing even though her mother and bff Cary are insane.

Gideon Cross is the owner of Crossfire and several other businesses, but to many women he is eye candy and worth a great fuck. I loved his boldness and direct attitude with Eva after they met a second time. He got straight to the point without beating around the bush. He knew what he wanted and went after it. Even when Eva kicked him down he kept trying to get her. I liked more so that he was willing to change his old habits and ways to be with her and never gave up on it. His past, even though not enough was shared, was just as brutal as Eva's and he did his best to cope just like her.

The romance between Gideon and Eva seemed non-existent at first because Gideon wasn't the kind of man to be into it, but when he tried the romance thing it was beautiful. There wasn't really a lot of romance as there was sexual tension and fun. I hope to see a bit more romance between the two.

The sexual tension was completely insane. Those sex scenes had me engrossed for real, on the edge of my seat and tipping on my toes. The sex was fierce, long and wild. They both aimed to satisfy one another and sort of overpower each other. The fact that they flowed and allowed each other equal control was superb.

The relationship they have, as strange as they are, is perfect. They both may be screwed emotionally, but the fact that they are working together to try something between them and never really giving up is amazing. Eva has this thing when she wants to run away and Gideon just becomes cold hearted when they don't want to deal with their issues, but the fact that they can come together and talk it out after they calm down is phenomenal. I think they are a perfect couple.

As for Gideon's ex Mag, his half brother Chris and his ex-fiance Corrine -- they can all go to hell and get over themselves. The old Gideon is gone or rather changed for the better and they need to move forward with their own lives.

Awesome read and definitely will be reading more of this series and Sylvia Day's books.
