My Thoughts
My second read from Shannon A. Thompson and once again I was blown away. This a YA Paranormal Romance told in two POV's.The first is through the POV of Eric Wellborn, the son of the King of Shades, the first descendant mentioned in the “Prophecy.” The second is through the POV of Jessica, the new girl in town.
Seventeen-year-old Eric has superpowers that were passed on to him by bloodline, which were activated at the age of thirteen, when he took part in his naming ceremony. The naming is important because it signals the end of naivety and the beginning of adulthood, responsibility, and duty—if Eric even lives long enough to accomplish it.
I enjoyed Eric's character because he wasn't the typical male character I see in a YA novel. He was different for me. Difficult, likable and mysterious with a stubborn mindset. Jessica was a sweet girl with the same background as Eric, just more powerful. She doesn't know much about who she is or her biological parents.
I loved how Jessica and Eric met and had to grow to like each other. I love how the prophecy does a 360 when the two of them meet each other. I also enjoyed the paranormal aspects of this novel -- it was very different from the normal paranormal beings I read about.
Definitely plan to move on to the sequel!
