Synopsis from Goodreads:
Della Doe Deare isn't like most people. Most people begin their life on the day they enter the world; the day they're born. Della, well, hers began on the day she turned eighteen. After all, it was the day she first heard her real name, and that of her mother. With nothing but a couple of duffel bags and a folder full of questions, she travels to coastal North Carolina to claim a house that she inherited from a grandmother she never knew.

She has two goals: discover why her mother ran away from home all those years ago, and avoid the family that had left her to rot in an inept foster care system. Hard to do when the family she's been trying to avoid is dragging her into an unimaginable world... a world on the brink of war, and both sides want her dead.

All Della ever wanted was to know who she was, but her journey to self-discovery might just lead to destruction.

My Rating: ★★★★★

Quote(s) I Like:
"No you don't; we're cousins. That's like built-in best friends. Now you can yell at me later, but be quiet or we won't get to hear what they're." - Cash

"Hah, Cash, it's actually more weird that I'm moving in with family. I've moved into a lot strangers' houses; I'm used to that. Family, however, is completely new. It's bizarre." - Della

"I dunno. The fact living with strangers is normal for you, and living with family isn't. How nonchalantly you just said that. It really must have sucked growing up." - Cash

EXCERPT

Excerpt from chapter eight:
My hand was dry! I mean, it had been wet just a momet before, but my skin was seemed to absorb the moisture the moment it was out of the spray. I stuck it back in the water, then pulled it out again to be sure. This time I saw the water absorb into my skin. I thought back to the times I had felt that way before. It was often after a swim in the ocean, but I never noticed the insta-drying that was happening. I'd always credited the suns rays to my quick drying.
Drenching my hands again, then holding them in front of my face, I willed the water to sink into them, marvelling at my new drying power. Of course, I marvelled a little too soon because as I was willing my hands to absorb the water, something funny started to happen; the water frrom the shower bent around me to reach my palms, which drank it up faster than a Sham-Wow.
     That's right
I was pulling water from the showerhead... Into. My. Hand.

REVIEW

**Disclosure: A copy of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and have not been influenced by any person, place, or event.**

O M G! Can you fantabulous fantasy novel! This was such a gripping story from start to finish. This was a slightly different take on a ya fantasy.

Della was such an interesting character. Her take on life based on her being in the foster care system was different for me. Most characters seek for family relationships and enjoy the bonding, but she felt sort of indifferent to the idea of a family. Della was a curious person, but quiet at the same. She was feisty as well and sarcastic.

The idea of the town being so small and everyone knowing each other and/or being related was extremely interesting. I never read a book with such strong family ties and I totally enjoyed it. The family secrets, truths and drama revealed was intense.

The discovery she made early on about her powers and from reading the journals really was the point in which the story picked up. The fact that Cash knew more about her then she did herself was intriguing.

There were tons of amazing characters and some that made me want to puke. But the cliffhanger broke my heart.

Will there be a sequel?!

Totally recommend this book.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

A Tidewater girl born and bred, Regan Claire's first friend and love was the Atlantic. Growing up being told the legends about Pirates and American Natives common in coastal VA and NC, coupled with being an only child, did wonders for her imagination; Regan had one foot in fantasy-land ever since, a trait her dear husband heroically endures (and one she secretly hopes her daughters have inherited). Her family moved inland to Nashville while she was entering tweenhood and not a day went by that she didn't miss her childhood playmate and her crashing waves. Nashville has her perks though, namely the love of Regan's life and their two sweet girls. Their insane mutt-dog and the stray cat that refuses to leave their porch aren't too bad either. Regan loves fairytales A LOT, teen movies (preferably with dancing or singing), reads entirely too much, and is constantly late.
